WPC November Trip to Nashville

In early May, powerful thunderstorms drenched Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi, dumping over 13 inches of rain on the region in two days. Creeks, lakes and rivers swelled with the rainwater, overflowing their banks, washing away roads, and causing the deaths of at least 24 people so far. The Cumberland River, which winds through downtown Nashville, Tennessee, crested Monday at 51.9 feet, 12 feet above flood stage, spilling into the city and surrounding neighborhoods. Over 44 counties in Tennessee have been declared Federal Disaster Areas and the cleanup has begun.  Click on this link to see pictures:  www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/05/flooding_in_tennessee.html

Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee is hosting Presbyterian Disaster Assistance sponsored Flood Relief for victims in the Nashville area needing assistance. http://www.nashvillewpc.org  .

Global Missions here at WPC is sponsoring an Adult Mission Trip in late November to assist in the recovery. Based on the demand we will also be leading a group to Nashville in January. Chick and Dorene Palermo worked in Nashville the week of  June 21st. To see pictures of the housing facilities at the church for volunteers (the Taj Mahal compared to our experiences in the Gulf) and of the home of Jeannette Harris where they worked click on http://albums.phanfare.com/isolated/bK1eWmy0/1/4733184 .

While Chick and Dorene were working on Jeannette’s house, PBS did a special segment on the Nashville flood. The home shown on the segment is where they were working. Look quickly and you might see them: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/weather/jan-june10/nashville_06-23.html   (Chick has a red hat!)
